Prayers for Dads – Day 4

Prayers for Dads

Coming out of our last series I did a search for “dad” in the devotions within the Bible app and scrolling through this new one appeared. With my other reading speaking to me about the importance of prayer over fear and worry, this felt like a great devotional to pick up. Looking at the description, the topic feels so relevant and important that I have decided to get started. Today’s devotional shares the following description: “Spend time praying for the fathers and father figures in your life and worldwide through this seven-day plan. Pray over various biblical aspects of fatherhood.” So let’s get started, spending time praying for the dads and father figures in our lives and around the world!

Today’s Scripture from the devotional:

Colossians 3:20

‘Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. ‘

Colossians 3:20

God’s Word is applicable day and night. God’s Word speaks to us when we dig into it as well as when the Holy Spirit brings it back to our memory in the situation we are facing. Let’s meditate on God’s Word so that we know it and will understand it when the Holy Spirit leads and guides us into all truth!

Let’s be the dads who demonstrate obedience to God in from of our wives, our kids, and our world so that they will know and understand the importance of obeying God and doing what He asks and calls us to do! Let’s be the dads who obey our Heavenly Father in everything in order to please Him! Let’s be the dads who please God by obeying our parents!

Even as I type this I flashback to that pivotal point in my career when I gave my parents and in-laws the power to decide my next step. I could either leave the company I was working for or I could move far away in order to work at corporate headquarters. Looking back I wasn’t really walking with or in a relationship with God and yet I took the commandment (which must have been in me from those years of Sunday school as a kid) to honor your father and mother as it is the first commandment with a promise that things will go well with you. I didn’t realize it at the moment, however, when I made the big move of taking away their only grandchild at the time, God intersected my life and transformed the rest of the story. It was during that initial time that God revealed to me the scripture and how it was the reason for the blessings I was receiving and experiencing in my life.
