Harmony and Unity: We need to value them highly in how we choose to live life.

Create an image depicting a harmonious and unified family scene. The image should feature a father and mother with their children in a warm, loving setting that symbolizes unity and peace. The father and mother should be shown working together, perhaps engaging in a meaningful conversation or sharing a moment of connection, while the children are actively involved and engaged. Include elements such as a family dinner or a peaceful home environment. Incorporate subtle symbols of biblical values, such as a gentle cross in the background or a soft light symbolizing divine presence. The overall mood should be one of warmth, togetherness, and love, reflecting the biblical principles of harmony and unity in relationships.

As dads, considering and pondering our lives, we must prioritize harmony and unity within our marriages, families, and relationships. We need to remember what God says to us through His Word; how to be the dads God created, purposed, and plans for us to be in the lives of our wives, kids, and world. Have you ever considered what we can do as men to bring harmony and unity into the lives of our wives and kids? Let’s be considerate to our wives and treat them with the respect they deserve because they two are heirs of the gracious gift of life and by so doing we will not be causing or creating anything hindrances to our prayers.

Pursue Peace in All Relationships through Harmony and Unity

God calls us to be peacemakers in our homes and beyond. As dads, we have a special responsibility to model Christ’s love by actively pursuing peace in all our relationships. Romans 12:18 reminds us, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” This means working to resolve conflicts, forgiving quickly, and choosing love over anger or resentment. The key takeaway is that peace requires intentionality—it doesn’t just happen. Practically, this can look like apologizing when we’re wrong, listening before speaking, and leading our families with a gentle and understanding attitude.

Walk in Harmony and Unity with Your Wife

Unity within marriage is crucial for creating a stable and loving environment for our children. Ephesians 4:2-3 urges us to “be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” As dads, it’s essential that we actively support our wives emotionally, spiritually, and physically to maintain this unity. When we work together as a team, we reflect the unity that Christ desires in His Church. Practically, this might mean setting aside time for meaningful conversations, praying together, or making decisions as a united front, demonstrating to our children what a strong, godly marriage looks like.

Lead Your Family with a Servant’s Heart through Harmony and Unity

Christ’s example of leadership was one of service and humility. As dads, we are called to lead our families by serving them. Mark 10:45 says, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” When we serve our wives and children, we meet their needs and create an atmosphere of love and respect in our homes. A key takeaway here is that true leadership means putting others first. This can look like helping with household chores, being present with our children, or prioritizing our family’s needs over our personal desires.

The Power of Harmony and Unity

In conclusion, the Scriptures clearly show that harmony and unity are vital components of a godly family life. By pursuing peace, fostering unity with our wives, and leading with a servant’s heart, we align ourselves with God’s purpose for us as fathers. These actions not only bless our families but also bring glory to God. As we strive to embody these principles, we become the dads that God, our wives, our kids, and our world need us to be—for their good and God’s glory. Let us commit to living lives that promote harmony and unity, trusting that God will guide us and bless our efforts as we walk in His ways.

Today’s Devotional:

This year, I am utilizing the 365 Daily Devotions book I received for Christmas, applying its teachings specifically in the context of fatherhood. It’s called WALKING WITH GOD by DAVID JEREMIAH. It’s exciting to learn from a new resource this year as we have tried different options the past two years and will keep working through this for 2024. Topic: A CONCEIT-FREE HEART

Verse: Romans 12:3

'For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. '

Let’s be the dads who reflect upon and walk in the grace we’ve received from God through Jesus and therefore don’t think of ourselves more highly than we ought. Instead, let’s think of ourselves with sober judgment, following the faith God has given to us. Let’s choose to be the dads who live with a conceit-free heart!

Measure of Faith

Today’s Devotional starts by turning our focus away from self and toward the “measure of faith” we have received from God. Let’s be the dads who pause to consider “What is our ‘measure of faith’?” What are the spiritual gifts that God has given to you? Have you received any of these gifts? Wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues. Prophecy, service, teaching, exhortation, contributing, leading, and acts of mercy. Let’s be the dads who choose to use the gifts given to us by God. Through the Holy Spirit, these gifts help us build up His body, the church of Jesus Christ.

Measuring our Achievements

Today’s Devotional goes on to help us evaluate our accomplishments by reminding us that “when it comes to measuring our achievements, there may be times when we are tempted to feel pretty good about ourselves.” and how we need to harness or restrain ourselves from boasting about ourselves but rather to use our achievements to glorify God. Yes, we do bring value but any boasting we consider doing needs to be done through the filter of “the Lord and all that He has done in our lives.”

Boast in the Lord

Today’s Devotional challenges us to boast in the Lord about our giftedness, proficiency, and good works, ensuring that pride doesn’t derail us. Remember how pride comes before the fall. Let’s be the dads who “with a humble heart, recognize the gifts God has given us, and put aside any temptations towards conceit or pride.”

“There is no spirit in man more opposed to the Spirit of God than the spirit of pride.
