Popular – Day 7

Popular - Using Your Influence For The Good Of Others

As we head into day 7 of the next devotional related to dads and the one that came up is an interesting one as it is one on the topic of being popular and using that influence for the good of others. It was also interesting because even though I searched for “dad” it invites middle school students to join the devotional. I am excited to see how this devotional will play into our series of devotionals for dad and how God will choose to use it through me to help us be the dads He purposed and created and planned for us to be! Even as dads we need encouragement to recognize the influence we have. As dads, we need to also use it for the good of others! Popular is a 15-day devotional! Popular comes to us from a group name reThink Group.

Let’s check out our scriptures for today’s devotional:

‘Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. ‘

Romans 12:13

It is always interesting to get to look at the Word of God before we jump into the message of the devotional. God’s Word is alive and active, sharper than a double-edged sword, and able to cut thru to get to the core of things.

Today’s Word speaks to us as dads and calls us to step up and step into what God has prepared and planned for us! Let’s be the dads who are paying attention to our surroundings! Let’s be the dads who are listening to what people are saying! Let’s be the dads who are making sure that they are feeling heard and being seen! Let’s be the dads who share with the Lord’s people who are in need! Let’s be the dads who contribute to the needs of the saints! Let’s be the dads who are distributing to the necessity of saints! Let’s be the dads who when God’s people are in need, be ready to help them!

The practice of the church in its earliest days was for wealthier Christians to sell their belongings to meet the physical needs of Christians who were not as well off. Not only did these acts of sacrificial giving demonstrate sincere service to God, they demonstrated to other believers and the watching world that these Christians practiced what they talked about.

What does Romans 12:13 mean?

Let’s be the dads who demonstrate, practice, look for opportunities, and are eager to show friendliness, hospitableness, welcome, warm reception, helpfulness, neighborliness, warmth, warm-heartedness, kindness, kind-heartedness, congeniality, geniality, sociability, conviviality, cordiality, amicability, amenability, generosity, liberality, bountifulness, and open-handedness to others!

The world can be a cold, lonely, and dangerous place. One hallmark of the Christian community is that it is meant to offer safe and welcoming spaces to believers through the hospitality of other believers. Traveling from town to town in Paul’s day was always a risk. Christians welcomed by other genuine believers as they passed through or arrived in a new town were protected from thieves, weather, and violence. We’re called to provide the same service to each other, in the contexts of our own individual cultures.

What does Romans 12:13 mean?

Let’s be the dads who see a need and fill it! Let’s be the dads who see a need and love on them showing God’s love and showing them hospitality!
