As we head into Good Friday and reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus and His ultimate payment for our sins, let’s choose to be anchored in faith in Him and consider how great God’s love is for us. God so loves us that He gave His one and only Son that whosoever would believe on Him would not perish but would receive everlasting life. Jesus’ sacrifice on Good Friday, taking the pain and the punishment due to us enables us to go from good to great and share the love of God with the rest of the world around us. Let’s choose today to be steadfast in our faith and share it with those around us.

The Unchanging Nature of God

In a world filled with uncertainties and fleeting moments, the steadfastness of God stands as an unwavering beacon of hope for believers. Psalm 18:30 reminds us, “As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.” Just as God remains steadfast and sure in His promises, we are called to anchor our faith in His unchanging nature. Through every trial and tribulation, we find solace in knowing that God’s love endures forever (Psalm 136:1), and His faithfulness remains steadfast to all generations (Psalm 100:5).

Key Takeaway:

By grounding ourselves in the unchanging character of God, we discover a firm foundation for navigating life’s uncertainties. His faithfulness provides us with the strength and courage to persevere, knowing that He will never abandon us.

Application:

When faced with challenges or doubts, meditate on the promises of God found in Scripture. Take time to reflect on His faithfulness in your life, recalling moments where His steadfastness brought you through difficult times. Let your faith be anchored in the certainty of God’s love and sovereignty, trusting that He will guide you through every storm.

Reflecting God’s Steadfastness

God’s steadfastness is not only a source of comfort but also a model for us to emulate in our own lives. 1 Corinthians 15:58 urges us, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” Just as God remains unwavering in His purposes, we are called to stand firm in our faith, unwavering in our commitment to His will. Through prayer, study of His Word, and obedience to His commands, we cultivate a steadfast spirit that reflects the character of our unchanging God.

Key Takeaway:

As followers of Christ, our steadfastness is a testament to the faithfulness of God working within us. By remaining rooted in Him, we can withstand the storms of life and shine as beacons of His light in a world filled with uncertainty.

Application:

Evaluate areas in your life where you may be wavering in your faith or commitment to God’s will. Seek His strength and guidance to stand firm in those areas, trusting that He will provide the perseverance and resolve needed to remain steadfast. Surround yourself with fellow believers who can encourage and support you on your journey of faith.

Anchoring Hope in God’s Promises

In times of doubt or adversity, we can find assurance in the steadfastness of God’s promises. Hebrews 6:19 reminds us, “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil.” Just as an anchor secures a ship amidst turbulent waters, our hope in God’s promises anchors our souls in His unchanging love and grace. No matter the circumstances we face, we can find peace and security in knowing that God is faithful to fulfill His Word.

Key Takeaway:

Our faith in God’s steadfastness enables us to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and hope. As we trust in His promises, we discover a peace that surpasses all understanding, anchoring our souls in His unfailing love.

Application:

Take time each day to reflect on a specific promise of God found in Scripture. Memorize key verses that speak to His faithfulness and meditate on them regularly. Let the assurance of God’s steadfastness permeate your thoughts and actions, guiding you through each day with unwavering trust in His sovereign plan.

Today’s Devotional:

This year, I am utilizing the 365 Daily Devotions book I received for Christmas, applying its teachings specifically in the context of fatherhood. It’s called WALKING WITH GOD by DAVID JEREMIAH. It’s exciting to learn from a new resource this year as we have tried different options the past two years and will keep working through this for 2024. STEADFAST AND SURE

Verse: Hebrews 6:19 (NIV)

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,

Therefore, let’s be the dads who walk in the hope of Jesus today. Moreover, let’s stand firm being anchored firm and secure in our faith. Finally, let’s be the dads who are unwavering because we are secure in all that Jesus has done for us!

Today’s Devotional kicks off speaking of Priscilla Owens and so did a bit of searching and found the following:

Owens was a school teacher in Baltimore, Maryland, for almost half a century. She taught Sunday school at the Union Square Methodist Episcopal Church. Most of her hymns were written for her Sunday school students.

Hymns:

  1. Give Me the Bible
  2. Jesus Saves
  3. We Have an Anchor
Hymns / Music :: Priscilla Jane Owens

Today’s Devotional speaks to how she composed many hymns include a couple with the lyrics “We have an anchor that keeps the soul steadfast and sure while the billows roll.” and “We have heard the joyful sound: Jesus saves! Jesus saves!”.

Today’s Devotional speaks to how “Jesus Himself is the only hope for the future of the world, the nation of Israel, and the final generations of history.” He is our hope for today and for the future! Today’s Devotional points to Acts 4:12 that says:

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Today’s Devotional encourages us with the reality that “when we hear the joyful sound of Jesus calling to us, we discover we have an anchor that keeps the soul steadfast and sure while the billows roll. Don’t fear the billows today; rejoice in the blessings.”

“Fastened to the Rock that cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love.”
