Let’s be the dads who know what God’s Word says. Let’s cling to His Word and His promises. I shared in another post this morning “The alarm woke me up this morning, that is a rare occurrence in my schedule as I tend to wake up without the alarm. As I lied there praying for my wife, my family, my workplace and giving them up to God today, I got up and started my morning routine. It starts with checking out the daily devotional for the day.” It reminded me of God’s promise and command through Joshua 1:9. And help me to lean into God and what His Word has to say for every day.
Embracing and Cling to Courage in God’s Presence
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it’s crucial for us to anchor ourselves in the unwavering truth of God’s promises. Today’s title, “Know God’s Promises and cling to them,” resonates with a profound need for believers to not only possess knowledge of these promises but to actively cling to them in faith. Just as the daily routine of prayer and devotion guided one individual’s morning, it serves as a poignant reminder of the imperative to align our lives with the timeless wisdom found in God’s Word. In Joshua 1:9, we find a powerful promise and command that lays the foundation for our journey of faith: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This verse encapsulates the essence of our quest to know and cling to God’s promises.
Cling to and Know there is Divine Purpose in Every Circumstance
Joshua 1:9 serves as a divine directive to be strong and courageous, not in our own strength, but rooted in the unwavering presence of God. As we navigate the uncertainties of life, this promise reassures us that fear and discouragement need not be our companions. The key takeaway here is the profound assurance that God accompanies us on every step of our journey. In applying this truth, we are called to replace anxiety with trust, and hesitation with boldness, knowing that God’s promises are our steadfast foundation. When faced with challenges or uncertainties, let us lean into the promise of Joshua 1:9, understanding that the Almighty God walks alongside us. Living out this promise involves a deliberate choice to trust in God’s sovereignty and to draw strength from His presence.
Cling to the Providential Guidance Toward Good
Further anchoring our journey in faith, Romans 8:28 unfolds a universal promise that we can cling to in every circumstance: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This verse reveals the divine orchestration behind the scenes, assuring believers that even in the midst of challenges and trials, God is working for our ultimate good. The key takeaway lies in understanding that every circumstance, whether favorable or challenging, is under the sovereign control of a loving and purposeful God. As we navigate the complexities of life, this promise becomes our compass, guiding us to trust in God’s providence. The application is to embrace a perspective that sees beyond the immediate, knowing that God’s plan is at work, weaving together a beautiful tapestry of purpose for those who love Him.
Living by Faith, Clinging to God’s Word because you know
In conclusion, the journey of knowing and clinging to God’s promises is not just an intellectual pursuit but a transformative and empowering reality. Joshua 1:9 calls us to be strong and courageous, leaning into God’s presence with unwavering trust. Romans 8:28 assures us that every circumstance is a part of God’s purposeful plan for our good. The importance of knowing these promises is surpassed only by the significance of living by faith, actively clinging to God’s Word in the face of life’s challenges. As we cultivate a daily habit of aligning our lives with these promises, we find strength, courage, and a renewed sense of purpose, ultimately experiencing the fulfillment of God’s unwavering commitment to those who love Him.
TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL:
This year, I am utilizing the 365 Daily Devotions book I received for Christmas, applying its teachings specifically in the context of fatherhood. It’s called WALKING WITH GOD by DAVID JEREMIAH. It’s exciting to get to learn from a new resource this year as we have tried different options the past two years and will keep working through this one for 2024. Topic: WE KNOW
Verse: Romans 8:28 (NIV)
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Therefore, let’s be the dads who aren’t lost or confused but rather remember that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose. Additionally, let’s be the dads who daily wake up and choose to love God and pursue His will and plans for our lives! Moreover, let’s be the dads who know God’s Word because we spend time in it and study it and meditate on it daily.
Today’s Devotional kicks off on the subject of human nature and asking or wanting to try to understand “why?”. It uses the example of “when bad things happen to good people”. It points to how by nature we want to “understand the apparent senselessness of accidents, suffering, failure, or persecution.” Let’s be the dads who lean harder into God during those times because “our faith can be shaken” when we try to “understand how a loving God could allow bad things to happen.”
Paul asserts that we know, not think but know
Today’s Devotional reminds us and points us when we are facing difficult time to “the blessed promise” Paul confidently and without hesitation wrote about and asserted. Through scripture, we see how Paul had to deal with suffering and persecution and yet, “he declares that we know, deep in our hearts, that bad things do not need to be feared.” We know God is at work behind the scenes and so we do not need to fear or be afraid because He is bringing good out of what seems bad in our eyes.
Let’s be the dads who don’t lose hope or faith in the situations or circumstances that we see or experience because we know that God is good, God is love, and there is no darkness in Him, so we can take hold of His Word and step up and step out strong and courageous to step into today. Let’s be the dads who know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Today’s Devotional concludes with this reminder: “The ultimate good toward which He is working is His glorification and the salvation of His children.”
