After being bombarded with life, how do you reset or respond? Do you take time and space? Do you make time and space? When you’ve been challenged or attacked where do you turn? How do you make time and space to hear from God? Do you have a still quiet place to get away and hear Him?
This morning, out in the dark, walking the dogs, the song started playing in my head “the devil thought he had me but Jesus said you are mine” and it was playing on repeat. Having done my from2005toeternity.wordpress.com devotional and posted up in the quiet loft by myself, the dogs wanted to go for a walk, and we went. The theme of meekness was the Word for today and God’s radio station playing direct to my brain reminded me that I am His.
This year I am using the 365 Daily Devotions book I received for Christmas and applying it towards being dads. It’s called WALKING WITH GOD by DAVID JEREMIAH. It’s exciting to get to learn from a new resource this year as we have tried different options the past two years and will keep working through this one for 2024. Topic: FIND A QUIET PLACE
Verse: Matthew 14:23 (NIV)
After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,
Firstly, let’s be the dads who know how to make time and space for God. Additionally, let’s be the dads who in the midst of the crazy and busy of life find time and make space to hear from God! Just like Jesus shows us, let’s be the dads who have alone time with God!
Today’s Devotional calls out how so many people are addicted to social media. Some are addicted to post and others to follow and yet they are addicted to different social media platforms. It calls out “social media sites, texting, e-mails, the internet, twenty-four-hours news cycles on radio and television – it’s almost impossible to find a place to be alone with our own thoughts.” And yet as I posted yesterday “Isolation: How the devil uses it to speak lies and create stress.”
The alone time with God and spending time in His Word and hearing from Him is important and necessary to help keep us healthy. God wants to meet us right where we are at. We are to be praying without ceasing. So, let’s be the dads who are focused on real connections and relationships with God and with others.
Today’s Devotional closes out with this point: “Turn off the distractions and meet alone with the Father who wants for you.”
The time will come when winter will ask what you were doing all summer.
