When We Are Weak, He Is Strong: A Biblical perspective.

In our weakness, God's strength is revealed.

Ever gotten to the end of yourself and wondered how you will be able to make it through? Felt weak and searched for strength and even prayed for strength asking God to help you get through? From a human perspective, we often view weakness as a negative attribute. However, from God’s standpoint, our weakness reveals His strength.

The Weak made strong!

In the intricate tapestry of our lives, woven with both triumphs and trials, we encourage embracing, not despising, the threads of weakness. For in our frailty, we reveal the magnificence of the Almighty’s strength. Reflecting on this truth, the Apostle Paul humbly acknowledged in his second letter to the Corinthians, “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'”

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV). This profound truth resonates throughout the Psalms, specifically encapsulated in Psalm 73:26, declaring, “Though my flesh and my heart may fail, God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26, NIV).

Check out those who are called in their weakness!

In the grand narrative of Scripture, we find countless accounts of God choosing the seemingly weak and insignificant to showcase His unparalleled strength. Consider the shepherd boy David, chosen to slay the giant Goliath, or the unremarkable town of Bethlehem, the birthplace of the Messiah. In weakness, God’s power emerges as the guiding force, transforming ordinary vessels into vessels of honor.

The Apostle Paul, reflecting on this divine paradox, encourages believers with the truth that “God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong” (1 Corinthians 1:27, ESV). Therefore, let us not shy away from our weaknesses, as it is through them that the brilliance of God’s strength shines most brilliantly.

Weak? Remember this:

God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalms 73:26

Today’s Verse of the Day:

My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the rock and strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalms 73:26 AMP

Therefore, let’s be the dads who put our trust in God over what we can think, do, or feel! Moreover, let’s be the dads who know we are frail and yet walk boldly and courageously because our hope and trust are in God! Finally, let’s be the dads who put their trust in God who is the rock and strength of our hearts and our portion forever!

How can we put today’s verse of the day into action so as to be the dads that our wives and kids need us to be? What can we take from it to help us live up to God’s calling on our lives so as to bring Him praise, honor, and glory, even in the midst of our weaknesses.

Applications of Psalms 73:26 towards becoming the dads God called and created us to be so that we can meet the needs of our wives and kids to His glory:

  • Surrender in Weakness: Acknowledge your own weaknesses and frailties. Surrender them to God, acknowledging that His strength is perfected in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
  • Daily Dependence: Cultivate a habit of daily dependence on God’s strength. Begin each day with prayer, seeking His guidance and empowerment.
  • Trust in God’s Strength: Trust that God is the rock and strength of your heart. Place your confidence in Him rather than relying solely on your own abilities or understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).
  • Model Humility: Embrace humility as a key virtue. Follow the example of Christ and the Apostle Paul, boasting in your weaknesses so that God’s power may rest on you (2 Corinthians 12:9).
  • Transform Weakness into Strength: Recognize that God often doesn’t choose the strong to showcase His strength. Allow God to transform your weaknesses into avenues for His power to be displayed, mirroring the examples of unlikely candidates such as David, Gideon, and others (1 Corinthians 1:27).
  • Be Bold and Courageous: Despite your weaknesses, walk boldly and courageously in faith. Trust that God’s strength will sustain you in your role as a father (Joshua 1:9).
  • Prioritize God’s Calling: Understand and prioritize God’s calling on your life as a father. Seek His wisdom in making decisions that align with His purposes for your family.
  • Reflect God’s Love: As a father, strive to reflect God’s love and character.
Guide your actions and words by the principles of love, grace, and patience found in the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 16:14).
  • Lead with Integrity: Lead your family with integrity and godly character. Demonstrate consistency between your beliefs and your actions, modeling a life of faith for your children (Proverbs 20:7).
  • Teach Dependence on God: Instill in your children the importance of depending on God’s strength. Teach them through your example and words that true strength comes from a relationship with the Almighty.

By applying these principles and reflecting on Psalms 73:26, you can navigate fatherhood with a reliance on God’s strength, leading your family with humility, courage, and love.
