Do you need something today? Have you happened to express it to anyone? Are you allowing humility to position yourself to be able to receive? You’ve heard “you have not because you ask not” right? Have you also heard that if you ask with a wrong heart, it won’t be answered too, right? Do you know what to do? Ever heard of the acronym A.S.K.?

Check out what James has to say first in regard to when you need something:

‘What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.

You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him. And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. ‘

James 4:1-10

As we prepare to jump into today’s verse of the day, let’s make sure we have the right heart and mind. Let’s humble ourselves now and prepare for what God is going to share with us.

A.S.K. means when you need something:

Therefore, let’s be the dads who ask and keep on asking so that we will receive what we have need of. Moreover, let’s be the dads seek and keep on seeking so that we will find for what we have need of. Finally, let’s be the dads knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened for what we have need of.

That’s right keep A.S.K. ing (Ask, Seek, Knock).

Firstly, how can we apply today’s verse of the day towards being the dads our wives and kids need? Secondly, how can we put it into practice so that we can live up to the calling of God on our lives for His purpose and glory?

Applications of Matthew 7:7 towards being the dads God created us to be to meet the needs of our wives and kids:

• Prayer and Communication: Encourage open communication within your family. Pray together as a family, and teach your children to seek God through prayer.
• Seek Wisdom: Ask God for wisdom in your role as a father. Seek His guidance and discernment in making important decisions for your family.
• Supportive Listening: Be attentive and receptive when your wife or children come to you with concerns, questions, or needs. Show them that you are there to listen and support.
• Model Faith: Be an example of faith and trust in God. Show your family how to seek God’s guidance and trust in His plan.
• Teach Persistence: Teach your children the value of persistence and perseverance in seeking knowledge, personal growth, and their relationship with God.
• Seek Forgiveness: Encourage a culture of forgiveness and reconciliation within your family. Teach your children the importance of asking for forgiveness and seeking to forgive others.
• Provide for Material Needs: As a father, work diligently to provide for your family’s material needs. This demonstrates responsibility and care for your loved ones.
• Protect and Guide: Just as God watches over His children, protect and guide your family. Be a source of strength and guidance in their lives.
• Be Available: Be accessible to your family, physically and emotionally. Make an effort to be there for them in times of need.
• Set Family Goals: Work together as a family to set and pursue spiritual, personal, and relational goals. Encourage each family member to seek what is best for the collective well-being.

Seeking God’s Guidance and Provision when you need something:

Need something? Remember that the essence of Matthew 7:7 is about actively seeking God’s guidance and provision. In the context of being a father, this means being actively involved in your family’s life, seeking their well-being, and providing the necessary support and guidance. Through these applications, you can strive to be the father that God has called you to be and fulfill His purpose for your family’s lives.
