As I was about to start typing about impossible, a song came to my mind that connects to this post and so before I start typing more, I am going to share a song to help encourage us as dads to lean in and trust God no matter what we are facing…
As you are listening to the song, wait to hear it say:
It doesn’t matter what you’ve heard
Impossible is not a word
It’s just a reason
For someone not to tryEverybody’s scared to death
When they decide to take that step
Out on the water
It’ll be alrightLife is so much more

Than what your eyes are seeing
You will find your way
If you keep believing
and then when it says:
Overcome the odds

You don’t have a chance
(That’s what faith can do)
When the world says you can’t
It’ll tell you that you can
Let’s be the dads who lean on God and walk by faith even when things get hard! Let’s be the dads who trust God for the miraculous when we are faced with the impossible! Let’s be the dads who are trusting God and watching to see what our faith in Him can do! One of my favoring take-aways from the song is that impossible is not a word. So let’s be the dads who won’t use what our eyes see or what others say to prevent God from working in and through our lives! Let’s be the dads who will choose to have faith in God rather than leaning in on our own understanding which is limited!
Today’s verse of the day from Matthew speaks to this when it says:
Do you remember the context this came from? Let’s go back and grab the full context as we cling to how we need to lean on God rather than just depending on ourselves and what is possible in our human efforts!
‘And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what [essentially] good thing shall I do to obtain eternal life [that is, eternal salvation in the Messiah’s kingdom]?” Jesus answered, “Why are you asking Me about what is [essentially] good? There is only One who is [essentially] good; but if you wish to enter into eternal life, keep the commandments.” He said to Jesus, “Which commandments?” And Jesus answered, “You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not give false testimony; Honor your father and mother; and love your neighbor as yourself” [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for others]. The young man said to Him, “I have kept all these things [from my youth]; what do I still lack?” Jesus answered him, “If you wish to be perfect [that is, have the spiritual maturity that accompanies godly character with no moral or ethical deficiencies], go and sell what you have and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me [becoming My disciple, believing and trusting in Me and walking the same path of life that I walk].” But when the young man heard this, he left grieving and distressed, for he owned much property and had many possessions [which he treasured more than his relationship with God]. Jesus said to His disciples, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, it is difficult for a rich man [who clings to possessions and status as security] to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man [who places his faith in wealth and status] to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were completely astonished and bewildered, saying, “Then who can be saved [from the wrath of God]?” But Jesus looked at them and said, “With people [as far as it depends on them] it is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” ‘
Matthew 19:16-26
So you are faced with the impossible, the music is playing telling you that impossible is not a word but just an excuse not to try, and then you remember you aren’t supposed to do this alone! 1 Peter 5:7 comes to mind and you remember you need to invite Jesus into the situation and cast your cares on God because He cares for you and allow God to do the impossible for His praise and His glory!
‘Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honor in His service] at the appropriate time, casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]. Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. But resist him, be firm in your faith [against his attack—rooted, established, immovable], knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being experienced by your brothers and sisters throughout the world. [You do not suffer alone.] After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts His blessing and favor], who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you [making you what you ought to be]. To Him be dominion (power, authority, sovereignty) forever and ever. Amen. ‘
1 Peter 5:6-11
Let’s be the dads who when faced with the impossibilities are looking for the opportunities for God to show up in a big and miraculous way! Let’s be the dads who when faced with the impossible in our own strength turn to God to help us do it and get through it in His! Let’s be the dads who live the possible with God for the sake of our wives! Let’s be the dads who live the possible with God for the sake of our kids! Let’s be the dads who live the possible with God for the sake of our world and all the people God brings into our lives!
Let’s consider what God’s Word has to say and its authority in our lives!
