Daring Dads of the Bible – Day 4

Scripture for Today’s Devotional:

‘When these celebrations ended—sometimes after several days—Job would purify his children. He would get up early in the morning and offer a burnt offering for each of them. For Job said to himself, “Perhaps my children have sinned and have cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular practice. ‘

Ever had a part of scripture that made you wonder what was going to happen? Ever had a part of scripture that made you think, oh boy, what’s coming now? Job used to be that for me. Up until 2013 that is when I realized the end of the story, I had read the entire thing year after year and yet the part that had stuck with me was the trials and tribulations Job went through. In 2013 as a big transition was going on in my work life, I was like oh no, now what, but then as my transition between companies was coming to a reality, Job 42:12 happened and I have never seen the story from Job the same way again. My last day at the first company I had ever worked at out of school was my morning reading spoke to me how the second half of my life was going to be twice as good as the first and it spoke to me from Job. God’s Word knows what we are going through right now. God’s Word is active and alive and able to speak into our exact moment, our concerns, our worries, and meet us right where we are at with the words to help us press in, press on, and accomplish the good works God has prepared in advance for us to accomplish. My friend and I went out for lunch that day and when I told him, he questioned if I was reading it right and so I showed him Job 42:12 and then Job 1:3 and he said “you know what, you’re right”.

‘ And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. [Job 1:3.]’

‘ He possessed 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and a very great body of servants, so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the East.’

So as today’s scripture came up I got excited to see how Job would be our daring dad and example for us. Let’s be the dads who are looking out for the best of our kids and for our kids! Let’s be the dads who will stand in the gap and stand up for our kids, praying and interceding for them and what they are doing! Let’s be the dads who lift up our kids to God and ask His hand be on them and over them, leading, guiding, instructing, and correcting them! Let’s be the dads who make it a regular practice to be praying and interceding for our kids!
