Godly Leadership for Dads

Let’s be dads who demonstrate godly leadership. Every dad wants to lead well, but the world around us is loud, chaotic, and constantly pulling our attention in a hundred directions. In 1 Samuel 15–19, we watch two men—Saul and David—walk two very different leadership paths. One collapses under pride and disobedience. The other rises through humility, courage, worship, and deep trust in God. These chapters give dads a roadmap for Godly leadership, even when life feels unstable.

Scripture:Obedience is better than sacrifice…” — 1 Samuel 15:22 (NLT)

Reflection for Dads

Saul looked the part of a leader, but he refused to obey God fully. Partial obedience is still disobedience. As dads, our families don’t need us to be impressive—they need us to be faithful. God honors obedience more than performance, reputation, or outward success.

Dad‑Challenge:

Identify one area where you’ve been obeying God halfway. Today, take the step toward full obedience.

1 Samuel 16 — Godly Leadership knows that God Sees the Heart of a Father

Scripture:People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7 (NLT)

Reflection for Dads

David wasn’t chosen because he looked like a king—he was chosen because he had a heart God could trust. Your kids don’t need a perfect dad; they need a dad whose heart is surrendered to God. God does His best work through humble, willing men.

Dad‑Challenge:

Ask God to shape your heart today. Pray, “Lord, make my heart one You can trust.”

1 Samuel 17 — Godly Leadership is aware that Courage Comes From Knowing God

Scripture:The battle is the Lord’s…” — 1 Samuel 17:47 (NLT)

Reflection for Dads

David didn’t defeat Goliath because he was strong—he defeated him because he trusted God. Your family faces giants too: fear, finances, stress, conflict, insecurity. Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s confidence in God’s presence.

Dad‑Challenge:

Name your “Goliath” today. Declare out loud: “This battle belongs to the Lord.”

1 Samuel 18 — Godly Leadership and Friendships Strengthen Fathers

Scripture:Jonathan made a solemn pact with David…” — 1 Samuel 18:3 (NLT)

Reflection for Dads

Jonathan and David show us the power of covenant friendship—loyal, honest, God‑centered relationships. Every dad needs brothers who sharpen, encourage, and stand with him. Isolation weakens men; godly friendships strengthen them.

Dad‑Challenge:

Reach out to one godly friend today. Encourage him, pray for him, or simply check in.

1 Samuel 19 — Godly Leadership knows that God Protects Those Who Walk With Him

Scripture:David made good his escape…” — 1 Samuel 19:12 (NLT)

Reflection for Dads

Saul’s jealousy turned violent, but God repeatedly protected David. When you walk with God, He covers you—even when life feels dangerous or unstable. Your family is watching how you respond under pressure. Let them see a man who trusts God’s protection.

Dad‑Challenge:

Pray Psalm 91 over your family today. Declare God’s protection over your home.

Godly Leadership for Dads

1 Samuel 15–19 shows us the contrast between a man who leads from pride and fear and a man who leads from humility and trust. Dads who follow David’s example—obedience, courage, worship, friendship, and trust—become anchors for their families in a chaotic world. Godly leadership isn’t about perfection; it’s about surrender.

Closing Prayer

Father, make me a dad who leads with humility, courage, and obedience. Shape my heart like David’s—a heart that trusts You fully. Protect my family, strengthen my friendships, and help me walk in Your ways every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
