Theme

We need a new prescription so that we can see life through the lens of God’s promises and provision. Faith is not wishful thinking — it is seeing your life, your fatherhood, and your future through the promises of God.

Opening Scripture

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” — Hebrews 11:1

“Without faith it is impossible to please God…” — Hebrews 11:6

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7

Session Focus

Many dads believe in Jesus — but still look at life through an old prescription.

Old lenses often include:

  • Fear
  • Control
  • Performance
  • Shame
  • Comparison
  • Self-reliance

The moment you placed your faith in Christ, God gave you a new prescription.

That prescription is called faith.

Faith is putting the full weight of your life on what God has said.

What God Has Already Made Available

Faith is not asking God to give you what you want.
Faith is trusting what God has already promised.

Below is what God has made available to you as a father:

1) His Presence

God with you — Joshua 1:9
God for you — Romans 8:31
God in you — 1 Corinthians 3:16

You are not leading alone.

2) His Salvation

Forgiveness — 1 John 1:9
Redemption — Ephesians 1:7
Adoption — Romans 8:15
New identity — 2 Corinthians 5:17
Eternal life — John 3:16

You do not father from shame.
You father from sonship.

3) His Holy Spirit

Power — Acts 1:8
Guidance — John 16:13
Conviction — John 16:8
Comfort — John 14:26
Transformation — Galatians 5:22–23

You are not called to strong-arm fatherhood.
You are called to Spirit-led fatherhood.

4) His Wisdom

Ask for wisdom — James 1:5
Discernment — Hebrews 5:14
Clarity for decisions — Proverbs 3:5–6

You don’t need all the answers.
You need dependence.

5) His Strength & Peace

Strength in weakness — 2 Corinthians 12:9–10
Courage in fear — Isaiah 41:10
Peace that guards your heart — Philippians 4:7
Peace Jesus gives — John 14:27

An anxious dad creates anxious space.
A peaceful dad creates security.

6) His Love

Unconditional — Romans 5:8
Nothing separates you — Romans 8:38–39
Perfect love casts out fear — 1 John 4:18

You don’t perform for love.
You lead from being loved.

7) His Provision & Protection

Daily bread — Matthew 6:11
God supplies every need — Philippians 4:19
Refuge — Psalm 46:1
Spiritual armor — Ephesians 6:10–18

Provision is more than financial.
It includes spiritual covering over your home.

8) His Purpose

A calling — 2 Timothy 1:9
Good works prepared — Ephesians 2:10
A legacy — Psalm 112:1–2
A story He’s finishing — Philippians 1:6

You are not randomly raising children.
You are building legacy.

Big Idea

You are not trying to get God to give you something.

You are learning to live from what He has already given.

Faith changes the lens.

Group Discussion

Core Questions (Must Cover)

What lens are most dads using to interpret life right now — fear, pressure, performance, comparison?

Starter Answer (Sample):
Many dads interpret life through pressure — financial pressure, cultural pressure, performance pressure. Instead of seeing through faith, we see through anxiety and expectations.

Leader Prompt:

  • What fears most influence how you lead at home?
  • Where do you feel performance pressure as a man?

What happens in a home when a father leads from fear instead of faith?

Starter Answer (Sample):
Fear-based leadership often produces control, anger, withdrawal, or emotional distance. It creates tension instead of peace.

Leader Prompt:

  • How have you seen fear show up in your tone or decisions?
  • What would change if faith led instead?

Which promise of God do you struggle most to believe personally?

Starter Answer (Sample):
Many men struggle to believe God’s peace or provision is truly enough. We intellectually agree — but emotionally still carry anxiety.

Leader Prompt:

  • Is it peace? Provision? Strength? Identity?
  • What would shift if you truly believed it?

Optional Depth Questions

Why is it easier to rely on what we see instead of what God says?

Starter Answer (Sample):
Because what we see feels immediate and measurable. Faith requires trust beyond circumstances.

Leader Prompt:

  • Where are you tempted to trust circumstances more than Scripture?

What would your leadership look like if you fully embraced what God has already provided?

Starter Answer (Sample):
There would be less striving, less anger, more steadiness, more humility, and more prayerful dependence.

Leader Prompt:

  • What’s one shift your family would notice immediately?

Key Takeaways for Dads

  • Faith changes how you see
  • You cannot lead well with blurry vision
  • God has already provided what you need
  • The problem is often perception, not provision
  • A new prescription produces new leadership

Dad Challenge This Week

  1. Identify one promise you’ve been functionally ignoring.
  2. Pray it daily for 7 days.
  3. Speak it over your home.
  4. Lead from that truth intentionally.

Closing Prayer

Father,
We confess that we often lead from fear instead of faith.
We react instead of trust.
We strive instead of rest.

Give us new vision.
Help us see ourselves the way You see us.
Help us lead from Your promises, not our pressures.

Make our homes places of peace, strength, truth, and joy.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Short Closing Declaration (Read Together)

I will not lead from fear. I will lead from faith.
I will not define myself by failure. I am redeemed in Christ.
God is with me, for me, and in me.
His Spirit empowers me.
His wisdom guides me.
His strength sustains me.
His peace guards my home.
His promises anchor my future.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
