When God’s Plan Meets Life’s Pushback

When Obedience Gets Hard Before It Gets Better

Today’s devotional explores God’s breakthrough power in Exodus 6–10 and how dads can rise strong through life’s battles. Every dad knows the feeling: you step out in obedience, you try to lead well, you commit to doing things God’s way… Every dad knows the feeling: you step out in obedience, you try to lead well, you commit to doing things God’s way… and suddenly life gets harder, not easier. Exodus 6–10 reminds us that God’s promises are certain even when circumstances push back. Moses faced resistance, discouragement, and spiritual warfare — yet God kept saying, “I am the LORD.” As dads, we need that same anchor when leading our families through seasons of pressure.

Exodus 6 — God Reaffirms His Covenant Promise

Scripture: “I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God.” — Exodus 6:7

Reflection: God speaks identity before deliverance. Israel was discouraged, Moses felt inadequate, and Pharaoh seemed immovable — yet God reminded them who He is and who they are. Dads need this same grounding. Before we lead, correct, protect, or provide, we must remember our identity as sons of God.

Dad‑Challenge: Speak a blessing over your family today — declare who God is and who they are in Him.

Exodus 7 — Moses and Aaron Step Into Their Calling

Scripture: “I have made you like God to Pharaoh…” — Exodus 7:1

Reflection: God equips us for the assignments He gives. Moses didn’t feel qualified, but God empowered him anyway. As dads, we often feel the weight of responsibility — but God never sends us into leadership empty‑handed.

Dad‑Challenge: Identify one area where you’ve been hesitating. Take one obedient step today.

Exodus 8 — God Makes a Distinction

Scripture: “But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen…” — Exodus 8:22

Reflection: God protects His people even in the midst of chaos. While Egypt suffered, God shielded His own. Dads are called to create that same spiritual covering — a home where God’s presence marks a difference.

Dad‑Challenge: Pray over your home tonight, asking God to make it a place of peace and protection.

Exodus 9 — God Reveals His Power and Purpose

Scripture: “That you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth.” — Exodus 9:14

Reflection: The plagues weren’t random; they revealed God’s unmatched authority. In a world full of competing voices, our families need dads who point them to the One true God.

Dad‑Challenge: Share one story with your kids about a time God showed His power in your life.

Exodus 10 — Pharaoh’s Resistance and Moses’ Resolve

Scripture: “We will go with our young and our old…” — Exodus 10:9

Reflection: Pharaoh tried to negotiate — “Leave the kids behind.” Moses refused. Dads today face the same spiritual pressure: culture wants our kids, their identity, their faith, their future. Moses models a dad’s resolve — my whole family follows God.

Dad‑Challenge: Declare today: “My whole household belongs to God.” Then take one action that reinforces it.

When Life Pushes Back, Stand Firm

God didn’t remove resistance — He revealed His power through it. Moses learned perseverance, Israel learned trust, and Pharaoh learned that no one can stand against the Lord. Dads today face their own Pharaohs: discouragement, spiritual opposition, cultural pressure, and personal insecurity. But God still says, “I am the LORD.” Stand firm. Lead boldly. Trust deeply. God is working even when the pressure increases.

Closing Prayer for Dads

Father, strengthen every dad who feels the weight of resistance today. Remind him of Your promises, Your power, and Your presence. Give him courage like Moses, resolve like Aaron, and faith that stands firm even when life pushes back. Cover his family, guide his steps, and let his home reflect Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
