Which way are you going? Make sure you’re headed in the right direction!

Which way are you going? As we begin today, let’s reflect on where we are going as husbands, dads, and men. Are you going the right way to ensure a strong marriage? As a dad are you going the right way to lead, support, and guide your kids? As men, are we going the right direction to point people to God in our homes and the world around us?

What signs are you seeing that might be telling you that you are going the right or wrong way?

What is your purpose and are you going in the right direction to accomplish it? How do you know the direction you are to go from the moment you get up till the moment your day ends? Where do you think, you are going to end up based on the direction you are going today? Is it the right way?

This year I am using the 365 Daily Devotions book I received for Christmas and applying it towards being dads. It’s called WALKING WITH GOD by DAVID JEREMIAH. It’s exciting to get to learn from a new resource this year as we have tried different options the past two years and will keep working through this one for 2024. Topic: CHANGING DIRECTIONS

Verse: Jonah 1:3 (NIV)

But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.

Firstly, let’s be the dads who run with God and towards God! Secondly, let’s be the dads who hear God’s direction and instruction and then pursue it! Finally, let’s answer the calling on our lives to be the dads our wives, kids, and world need us to be!

You’re going the wrong way!

Today’s Devotional starts with statistics about car accidents on the highways caused by people going the wrong way. It speaks to the different reasons for it happening like drunk drivers, wrong turn and getting on the off ramp, or fleeing the police and yet it becomes a terrifying moment for those involved.

Today’s Devotional shares how “over 1,700 people die annually in the United States from crashes caused by drivers traveling the wrong way on a highway.”

DANGER: You’re going the wrong way!

Today’s Devotional speaks to how “it’s always dangerous to go the wrong way.” It shows how it impacted Jonah to try and flee from God’s will and how it won’t work out any better for us. So what way are you headed? Today’s Devotional asks the question “Has Satan gotten the better of your judgement?” Where are you going and are you in need of changing directions?

Take a 180 not a 360 degree turn:

Today’s Devotional closes out with guidance to turn back to God! Doing a 360 degree turn keeps us going the wrong way. Doing a 180 degree turn stops us from running away from God and gets us to start running back towards God. Today’s Devotional shares “Repent of any and all sin. Rededicate yourself to Jesus Christ in body, mind, and soul.”

Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’ - Ezekiel 33:11 (NIV)

Today’s Devotional closes with this thought: “Let the Lord help you get out of the wrong lane today.”

Repentance is one of the most positive words in any language. It tells us we can change direction. It assures us God will help us improve.
