Hearing: Will you respond out of understanding and obedience

photo of a boy listening in headphones

Are you hearing what is being said? How will you choose to respond today? He said it do you believe it? If He said it then you realize it is done right? So when you hear it will you understand it? When you hear it will you obey it?

Ever noticed when Jesus spoke the parables that he said “whoever has ears, let them hear”? Did you notice how the disciples heard but didn’t understand and required clarification and wisdom? How about you, when God speaks to you do you understand, or do you need clarification and wisdom? Once you’ve gotten it, do you obey?

Yesterday, I missed this post and so today out of obedience of having daily posts, I am going to do two of them and backdate this one to its original date.

This year I am using the 365 Daily Devotions book I received for Christmas and applying it towards being dads. It’s called WALKING WITH GOD by DAVID JEREMIAH. It’s exciting to get to learn from a new resource this year as we have tried different options the past two years and will keep working through this one for 2024. Topic: HAVING EARS TO HEAR

Verse: Acts 11:22-23

News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.

Firstly, let’s be the dads who when we hear the news we receive it and look to understand it. Secondly, let’s be the dads who then look to walk out in obedience what God is calling us to do so as to be encouragement to others. Finally, let’s be the dads who having ears to hear listen and engage with our wives, kids, and world to glorify God!

Selective Hearing

Today’s Devotional starts with the example of selective hearing. It speaks to how when examples of selective hearing take place it tends to miss on having a response. It goes on to express how selective hearing tends to be either they “aren’t listening or they don’t want to do what is being asked of them.”

Hearing God’s Intensions through a situation:

Today’s Devotional goes on to discuss the situation from today’s verses and how the church didn’t have selective hearing but when they heard went into action and responded. It speaks to how when they heard about what happened in Antioch they engaged and out of obedience “sent Barnabas there to build up the believers and encourage them to remain true to God.” Their obedience “spurred on the believers in Antioch to carry on their mission.”

How will you respond when you hear?

Today’s Devotional challenges us today to hear what is going on “locally and around the world” and then responding out of obedience to what God is calling us to do. Let’s be the dads and the church who when we hear something listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit so we can understand and then out of obedience take action. As Today’s Devotional says “Let’s listen to what God is asking us to do.”

Unity is necessary among the children of God if we are going to know the flow of power … to see God do His wonders.
