Humility: We need to live, love, and lead with it.

Humility has its benefits. Firstly we know that God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. Secondly, pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gains honor. Thirdly, the reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches, honor, and life. Therefore, humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Humility as dads:

So, how can we effectively model and demonstrate these principles within our families? To start, it’s crucial to admit when you’re wrong and apologize sincerely. Given that we all make mistakes and our words or actions can inadvertently hurt our families, it becomes paramount to swiftly acknowledge our errors and offer heartfelt apologies.

Furthermore, it’s important to actively listen to your family members with both respect and curiosity. Recognizing that we don’t possess all-encompassing knowledge, it’s essential to approach their words with humility. This involves attentive listening without the inclination to interrupt, judge, or dismiss their perspectives.

In addition, showing appreciation and affirming your family members’ strengths and achievements is a pivotal aspect. By practicing humility, we can effectively acknowledge and celebrate the unique gifts and talents that each family member brings to the table, refraining from feelings of envy or competitiveness. Equally significant is the act of serving your family members with unwavering love and kindness. Prioritizing their needs and interests above our own, without any expectation of reciprocity, showcases a true embodiment of humility and selflessness.

Lastly, seeking feedback and guidance from your family members can greatly enrich the family dynamic. Let’s be the kind of fathers who openly acknowledge that our understanding isn’t all-encompassing. Embracing the wisdom and experience of our family members can significantly contribute to our growth and understanding as individuals and as a cohesive unit.
