Are you idolizing something or someone? Why?
Who or what are you praising and putting at the center of your life? Who or what are you idolizing? Do you realize that is a bad thing? Do you realize how it is robbing you? Do you know that it is taking away from the realities and promises of God? Do you realize there is a better option?
God’s commandments tell us:
‘“You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. ‘Exodus 20:4
Keep God as your focus, trusting God rather than your own understanding, acknowledging Him so that He can show you the path to take and make it straight!
Yes, there will be storms in life that will hit us all, yet we need to make sure we are building our lives on the rock, the firm foundation that is Jesus so that we can withstand and sustain through it!
‘ “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” ‘Matthew 7:24-27
So let’s go about it in God’s way, keeping Him in the center of our lives so that we aren’t tripped up or deceived by idols that are trying to take our eyes off of Jesus!
‘But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. ‘Matthew 5:44-45
Let’s be the dads who love God first! Let’s be the dads who from the overflow of God’s love are able to pour love into the lives of our wives! Let’s be the dads who from the overflow of God’s love and our marriage love are able to pour love into the lives of our kids! Let’s be like the fountains that keep overflowing with God being our source.
Today’s Verse of the Day:
In closing let’s be the dads who grab hold of what God’s Word has to say and press into who He has purposed and created us to be as dads!
‘Then David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly: “O Lord , the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever! Yours, O Lord , is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord , and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength. “O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name! But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us! We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace. “O Lord our God, even this material we have gathered to build a Temple to honor your holy name comes from you! It all belongs to you! I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously. “O Lord , the God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, make your people always want to obey you. See to it that their love for you never changes. Give my son Solomon the wholehearted desire to obey all your commands, laws, and decrees, and to do everything necessary to build this Temple, for which I have made these preparations.” Then David said to the whole assembly, “Give praise to the Lord your God!” And the entire assembly praised the Lord , the God of their ancestors, and they bowed low and knelt before the Lord and the king. ‘1 Chronicles 29:10-20
