So we jumped into a new area for me last devotional focusing on single dads and as I was searching through the devotionals again to find our next topic I thought I would dig into another topic that dads are facing. I am sure you have heard of the topic and I am sure you even know some people who have or even are struggling with it today (even if you don’t know who they are). God as the year has continued has shown me new areas to dig into that dads are faced with or challenged by and so here we go into this new arena. Today the topic is the struggle with pornography.
Today’s devotional is described as follows:
Fallen Heroes: A Devotional for Dads Who Struggle With Porn
9 Days
This is a reading plan for dads who want to quit porn. It was written by Keith Rose, a content creator at Covenant Eyes. Fallen Heroes looks at Psalm 68 to re-orient your perspective and teach you how to break free. It challenges you to think about heroism in a completely different way.

Scripture for Today’s Devotional:
Where do we need to turn? God’s Word! God’s Word, no matter the topic is our starting point because God’s Word never returns void! God’s Word is active and alive! God’s Word is able to cut through the noise and garbage to get to the core of the matter like a double-edged sword can cut through the joint and get to the marrow! There is no topic too big or too hard for God’s Word not to be able to answer!
Let’s be the dads who turn to God when we face challenges because we know that He will scatter His enemies! Let’s be the dads who turn to God when we are dealing with obstacles because we know that God will make His foes flee before Him! Let’s be the dads who turn to God for help as He will blow away the enemies of our soul like smoke as wax melts before the fire! Let’s be the dads who turn to God and cling to Him because we want to walk in the power and saving grace of Jesus so that we can be considered righteous and be glad, rejoicing before the Lord! Let’s be the dads who choose to spend time in God’s Word, God’s presence, and in relationship talking with God through prayer so that we can be happy and joyful!

Takeaways from Today’s Devotional:
“How can you be strong for your family when you feel so weak?“
- Today’s devotional kicks off using the example of the dad from The Patriot who chases after the British after they murder one of his boys to give us a visual for the battle related to porn.
- Today’s devotional uses this example to show how within us our instinct is to be protectors of our family and “the heroic instinct to fight anything that would hurt your children“!
- Let’s be the dads who realize that we are supposed to be heroes to our wives and kids!
- Let’s be the dads who turn to God for our strength, our courage, and our direction because we are well aware that just like this dad in The Patriot who “knows that his fury against the violence and oppression of the enemy are tainted by his own history of violence and oppression. He is not the righteous hero for his family, but a fallen hero.“!
- Let’s be the dads who even in the midst of our struggles and as the topic for today’s devotional calls out, struggle with porn, and how we “have this furious urge to go to war for our family“!
- Let’s be the dads who even in the midst of our struggles and as the topic for today’s devotional calls out, struggle with porn, and how we “want to protect them from the nastiness of porn—we want to smash it“!
- Let’s be the dads who turn to God to help us because we know we are fallen men and that we need His strength, His courage, His wisdom, and His direction to become overcomers through Jesus!
- Let’s be the dads who allow God’s strength to be revealed in our weaknesses!
- Let’s be the dads who aren’t robbed of all God is offering us by the fear that the devil is trying to put on us!
- Let’s be the dads who don’t allow the failures of the past to define us and our future and keep us from becoming the dads who God created, purposed, and planned for us to be!
- Today’s devotional points us to a quote from another book that says:
- Let’s be the dads who lean into God and trust in Him rather than our own understanding so that we can be overcomers instead of “feeling too weak to fight porn, feeling like a failure – the opposite of a hero” as today’s devotional puts it!
- Let’s be the dads who turn to God and His Word as we found in today’s devotional (Psalm 68) where God, our best example of how to be the dads we are supposed to be, “appears like the ultimate superhero and wreaks havoc on the enemy. His enemies melt like wax and disappear like smoke. Powerful stuff. “!
- Let’s be the dads who lean in on God so that we can be more like Him!
- Let’s be the dads who lean in on God so that we can walk in His power, overcoming the enemy!
- Let’s be the dads who don’t stop fighting, don’t stop trying, and press forward asking God for wisdom and discernment, courage and strength, to press in and through the temptations and struggles!
- Let’s be the dads who ask God to help clear and clean our minds, taking captive every thought and making them submit to Jesus!
- Let’s be the dads who turn to God to help us break the bonds that are causing us to “let lust infect my thoughts and actions“!
- Let’s be the dads who aren’t paralyzed by our own weaknesses and failures but instead choose to walk in the victories of God through Jesus!
- Going back to today’s scripture, today’s devotional shares this thought:
- Let’s be the dads who realize we are human and as such “not invulnerable heroes“!
- Let’s be the dads who realize that “God is the hero we can’t be“!
- Let’s be the dads who choose to “Celebrate that“!
- Let’s be the dads who choose to “Own our weakness and celebrate God’s strength“!
- Today’s devotional closes with the following thoughts to reflect upon:
