Scripture from Today’s Devotional:
‘ For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.’
Hebrews 4:12
‘ Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action),’
2 Timothy 3:16

Takeaways from Today’s Devotional:
“Fundamental 6—Reading the Bible (Sword of the Spirit)
(Eph 6:17)“
- Ever seen the word Logos and thought it was an image?
- Looking up the word Logos, we discover that it really means: “the Word of God, or principle of divine reason and creative order, identified in the Gospel of John with the second person of the Trinity incarnate in Jesus Christ.“
- Let’s be the dads who receive, meditate, and listen to God’s Word be it “the incarnate Word (Jesus as Logos), God’s spoken Word (the Holy Spirit), and God’s written Word (the Bible)“!
- Let’s be the dads who study the Word of God because we know it is our one offensive weapon against the devil as it is the Sword of the Spirit!
- Let’s be the dads who read God’s Word daily so that we can be inspired!
- Let’s be the dads who read God’s Word daily so that we can be instructed!
- Let’s be the dads who read God’s Word daily so that we can be reprimanded!
- Let’s be the dads who read God’s Word daily so that we can be convicted!
- Let’s be the dads who read God’s Word daily so that we can be corrected!
- Let’s be the dads who read God’s Word daily so that we can be disciplined!
- Let’s be the dads who read God’s Word daily so that we can be trained!
- Let’s be the dads who read God’s Word daily so that we can be trained in in righteousness, in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action!
- Let’s be the dads who pick up and carry God’s Word with us so that we are prepared and can attack the enemy!
- Let’s be the dads who don’t leave home with the only offensive weapon we have as part of the armor of God!
- Let’s be the dads who know for us to know the will of God that we need to know the Word of God!
- Today’s Devotional shares the following wisdom from God’s Word with us:
- “Hebrews 4:12 (ESV) says, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” As Christians, we are justified by faith in Christ through His righteousness and not our own, but we still live with our flesh nature that is being renewed through the process of sanctification. The Word of God puts us in alignment with what is holy, right, and pure.“
- “2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV) says that “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” The Bible tells a rich tapestry of God’s redemptive plan. It is also our foundation for knowing God and knowing how we need to respond to God and each other. We need a relationship with God and through experience we grow that over time. However, trying to throw out the Bible in order to have “experiential knowledge” only about God is a fool’s errand. We cannot know who God is and what He expects of us without the Bible as our foundation.“
- Today’s devotional then closes with this thought and challenge for us:
- “It’s important to read the Word and get the Word in you. Jesus is the Bread of Life, and the Bible is our daily bread. You cannot eat one meal a month and survive. You cannot read the Bible once a week and expect to flourish spiritually. Even if you don’t remember what you ate last week, it nourished you for when you needed it. You can never read the Bible once and be done with it because the Holy Spirit can quicken new things to you every time you read it.“
- “What routines do you have around reading the Bible daily, and more importantly, are they working? Do you read the Bible even when you don’t “feel” like it? What is your favorite verse in the Bible? Read that again today out loud.“
