Becoming A Connected Father–Day 8

Becoming A Connected Father

As I reflect on this devotional, I am so glad for organizations that provide support, guidance, direction and suggestions to help us be the dads God purposed and created us to be. Today’s devotional closes out on the strategies to help us face the challenges that come our way as dads. This devotional gives us solutions to help us become better-connected dads including leadership, communication, and training as well as extra training materials for ourselves like “the full digital course called The Connected Father“. This devotional gave us two strategies in the area of leadership: Read Scripture and Prioritize Time. This devotional gave us two strategies in the area of communication: Ask Questions and Listen Openly. This devotional closed by giving us two strategies in the area of training: Be Unified and Engage Hearts. So let’s consider and ponder how we can take what we have learned and apply it to our lives. Let’s be the dads who aren’t just hearers of the Word but doers of the Word. Let’s be the dads who will use the resources made available to us to be the dads God created and needs for us to be in the lives of our wives, kids, and world!

It’s always so interesting to get to read one of the devotionals from Manhood Journey and how they speak to men and especially dads.

As I consider the reality of the importance of being the dad God created me to be for my wife’s sake, my kids’ sake, and this world’s sake, living life as Jesus purposed to the full, more abundantly, and without regrets comes to mind. God created us for relationships! God created us to be in a relationship with Him, God created us to be in a relationship with our wives, God created us to be in a relationship with our kids, and God created us to be in a relationship with others! So let’s be the dads who choose to live connected lives so that by being connected with God we can allow God’s love, plan, and purpose to flow into us and through us into the lives of our wives, our kids, and our world!

So with my usual search for the word “dad” and scrolling through a couple of pages, today’s devotional is going to be “Becoming A Connected Father” from Manhood Journey!

Today’s Scriptures from the Devotional:

‘ Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.’

2 Timothy 3:16-17

‘ Counsel in the heart of man is like water in a deep well, but a man of understanding draws it out. [Prov. 18:4.]’

Proverbs 20:5

‘ Therefore encourage (admonish, exhort) one another and edify (strengthen and build up) one another, just as you are doing.’

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Whenever we need to figure something out or understand what to do, we should turn to God’s Word that never returns void! Let’s be the dads who turn to God’s Word and meditate on what God is saying to us through His Word at that moment! Let’s be the dads who remember that the Bible is God-breathed, given by His inspiration, and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, and for training in righteousness: in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action. Let’s be the dads who grab hold of the reality that the Bible was given to us so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work. Let’s be the dads who seek counsel from God and are willing to draw it out and apply it in our lives! Let’s be the dads who come alongside one another to encourage, admonish, and exhort each other! Let’s be the dads who get together with one another to edify, strengthen, and build each other up! Let’s remember we have a part and were never meant to go through this thing called life on our own! Who do you need to hear from or be with today? Who needs you to speak to them or be with them today? (something to do, somewhere to go)

  • Leadership

Here we talked about managing our time and setting the right example.

2 Timothy 3:16-17: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

LEADERSHIP
  • Communication

This is where we looked at ways to get our kids talking, much of this area hinged on our listening skills and asking them great questions

Proverbs 20:5: The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.

COMMUNICATION
  • Training

On these reading days, we talked about being unified in your marriage and seeking to engage hearts.

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
