Being FATHERED By God – Day 14

Being Fathered By God

Transitions can be hard for dads when they are to be helpers for their kids, support for their wives, and in the midst of it all, handle their own emotions and situations as change is taking place.

I found this devotional: Being Fathered By God. The devotional seems very powerful and purposeful as it calls out how “Every man has had authority figures in his life, and much of what a man perceives about God was shaped by those authority figures. His earthly father is at the top of every man’s authority list.” So I took on the offer to join the journey into this devotional. Will you join me on this 14-day journey?

Scripture from Today’s Devotional:

“And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Let’s be the dads who receive and follow Jesus! Let’s bet he dads who pursue God’s plans and purposes for our lives! Let’s be the dads who know that we are loved by God! Let’s be the dads who when we get to see God face to face will hear “well done, good and faithful servant” because we have lived our lives to please God! Let’s be the dads who our wives need! Let’s be the dads who our kids need! Let’s be the dads who emulate our heavenly Father loving our wives and kids! Let’s be the dads who speak affirmation into the lives of our wives and kids by letting them know how much they are loved ad how pleased we are in and of them!

Today’s devotional was provided by Michael Thompson where on zoweh.org they share the following: “Every man has had authority figures in his life, and much of what a man perceives about God and projects onto God was shaped by those authority figures. At the top of every man’s authority list is his earthly father. How your dad handled your heart has shaped you and contributed significantly to how you perceive God. Join us for this journey towards experiencing the heart of the Father and getting everything out of the way that is in the way of being a Beloved Son.

Takeaways from Today’s Devotional:
Building a Son

  • Let’s be the dads who lead by example!
  • Let’s be the dads who pray for our kids like today’s devotional speaks to the prayers of a godly dad speaking of General Douglas MacArthur:
    • “Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.

Build me a son whose wishbone will not be where his backbone should be; a son who will know Thee and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge. Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.

Build me a son whose wishbone will not be where his backbone should be; a son who will know Thee and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge. Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.”
  • In my case having a son and two daughters, I choose to pray three times rather than edit it into one prayer so it would look like theses:
    • Build me a daughter, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when she is weak, and brave enough to face herself when she is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.

  • Today’s devotional closes with this challenge to take in our alone time with God:
    • “What are you favorite lines of this memoir?”
    • “Why? Are they aspirations or affirmations?”
    • “What characteristics would you like to ask and trust God to bring into your life? Are you willing to let him? What if that path was hard or challenging?”
  • Today’s devotional closes our our 14 days with the following:
    • You are the Beloved Son or daughter of a good, good Father! Play your part and invite Him to play His. Watch, listen and learn the Rhythms of Grace and the ways of the Kingdom. He wants to entrust you with more. This fallen war-torn place needs men and women who have experienced more and are living to tell about it! I pray this for and over you, His transforming Love and the Life in which you have always dreamed. –Michael Thompson
