Killing Sin – Day 2

Killing Sin

Today’s devotional is Killing Sin. It’s interesting as the order changed from what I had looked at yesterday when I was finishing our last devotion on the 10 Challenges Every Dad Must Conquer. It’s a shorter devotional in that it is only 4 days long. This devotional was provided by Moody Publishers which has a great number of reading resources. Checking out the description of the devotional it shares the following: “If you feel like you’re on the losing end of sin, and shame has you hiding out in the basement of life, God has a plan for you to win and the power to pull it off. It’s time to put to death those sins that have been killing you. In this four-day study, you’ll learn about God’s strategy for dealing with sin and living in freedom.” Are you ready to jump in and grab hold of this freedom? Are you ready to jump in and hear God’s strategy to help us be the dads God created and purposed for us to be? Are you ready to journey with me through these 4 days? Let’s get started!

Today’s devotional gets us digging into the following scriptures:

‘But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. ‘

1 John 1:7-9

‘Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. ‘

James 5:16

‘If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer. ‘

Psalms 66:18-19

Today’s Word from God is powerful. I am so thankful that God’s Word never returns void! I am so thankful that God’s Word is alive and active! I am so thankful that God’s Word is sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Even when we don’t know what to do, God provides us wisdom and guidance as we find in today’s verse that tells us to walk in the light and to fellowship with one another so that the blood of Jesus will be able to purify us from all sin. God tells us to be humble because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and so don’t claim to be without sin and be found out to be a liar, don’t deceive yourself and live a lie. So today, let’s confess our sins to God who is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Even when we don’t know what to do, God provides us wisdom and direction as to what we are to do today: “confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” Let’s make sure we surround ourselves with brothers and sisters in Christ who are able to support and encourage us when we slip and can grab hold of God’s Word that says: “restore that person gently“. Let’s make sure not to go it alone but ensure we have someone who is with us so we can grab hold of God’s Word that says: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” and so let’s not go it alone and ensure we put Jesus at the center.

So let’s get rid of the sin in our hearts so that God has room. Let’s ask Jesus into our hearts so that He can help clean out our house home and create a new heart in us. Let’s take hold of today’s Word from God that tells us to let go of the sin and turn to God and allow Him to hear and answer our prayers.
